In this course, we will create a plan for your first story. You’ll learn to outline a story from beginning to end so that it creates suspense and pulls the reader along on a journey. Your plan will also provide you with an outline of what you need to write each day making your writing time that much more product
Check the start dates below for each course.
Writing a Family History Scene Begins Oct 31, 2017, 6-weeks
In this new course, we focus our attention on turning the events of our ancestor’s life into scenes. Scenes are the hallmark of engaging stories. Without them, our stories are dry and lifeless. Through our six weeks together, we look at the difference between scene and summary. We cover the various elements required to write a scene including description, dialogue, and conflict. We learn to add layers of emotion and theme to our scenes. By the end, family history writers will have a full understanding of scene writing and will be on their way to practising and improving their scenes to write engaging family history stories. We keep these classes small so that we can critique each other’s work, get one on one help, and learn from each other.
Plotting a Family History Story Begins Jan 9, 2018, 6-weeks
In this course, students identify the story they want to tell from the beginning to the end. They will learn about storyboards and arcs and how to use them in planning their family history story. Students will work through each stage of a story identifying the important scenes so that they can organise them into a suspenseful and compelling fashion. Students will walk away with a storyboard plan ready to help them write their next story.
